In order to provide Chinese customers with the best service possible, Chen Jiang will work alongside Pi’s current Chinese distributors supplying a range of products including:

As part of Chen Jiang’s training, Pi’s Managing Director Mike Riding visited China for two weeks in September 2019. Whilst there, the pair visited three companies that currently supply Pi’s products to different categories of the water industry; Shanghai Limpiom, Beijing Strong Eternal and Beijing Ben Hua.

Chen Jiang was also given access to a Chinese version of the Pi website, which can be found at www.processinstruments.cn. Mike provided Chen Jiang with some website training so that he can translate the site and make it much more user-friendly for the Chinese market.

Of the trip, Mike said:

“At Pi, we really pride ourselves on being a British company that exports to China and felt that the time was right to recruit a representative based there. Chen Jiang will be a great addition to the Pi family and was a great host. It was lovely that as part of my visit, Chen Jiang introduced me to his wife and new baby. I look forward to seeing them again and can’t wait to see Pi’s progress in China.”

Burj KhalifaIn April, Pi’s head office contact for the Middle East, Julius Guth, visited Dubai, alongside Hazco’s Muhammed Aqeel.

Julius and Muhammed met with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) who provide drinking water for all of Dubai.

Their first system trial monitored the chlorine dioxide levels in Dubai’s drinking water, which included using:

Based on the success of the trial, DEWA recently ordered ten DioSense chlorine dioxide systems.

At the meeting, DEWA discussed the technical specifications required for their future systems. In order to offer the best possible service to DEWA, Hazco are in the process of setting up a local office in Dubai to maximise efficiency and provide local support.

Nevertheless, the week wasn’t all work! Julius and Muhammed had the opportunity to visit the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Up on the 125th floor, the pair had a stunning view over the city of Dubai, an experience they are unlikely to forget.

When commenting about his trip, Julius said:

“It was a pleasure to spend the week with Muhammed. The meetings with DEWA will pave the way for our growing presence in the Middle East. We have been long-standing partners with Hazco, so it’s always good to see them and provide assistance where we can.”

Pi passes another milestone

CRIUS and CRONOS Multi-Parameter AnalysersIn April, Process Instruments shipped their 4000th Version 3 controller and their 8000th controller since the company launched.

In January 2017, Pi launched Version 3 of their instrument controllers and demand has continued to increase, allowing them to deliver accuracy, cost effectiveness and robust solutions to many distributors and customers across the world.

Pi’s range of instrument controllers is made up of the CRIUS® and CRONOS® multi-parameter analysers that can greatly reduce the cost per point of any measurand, without sacrificing the quality of those measurements.

The CRIUS® is Pi’s flagship controller and is fully Water 4.0 and Industry 4.0 ready. Expandable up to sixteen sensors, the CRIUS® has multiple digital comms options, wireless and wired internet access and full PID capability with remote setpoint, allowing users to monitor and manage sites with both flexibility and accuracy.

The CRONOS® is the little brother of the CRIUS® and is perfect for those wanting a no frills, lower cost controller. With the capability to control up to two sensors, optional comms packages and optional PID control are also available.

Combined with Pi’s range of sensors, including:

Process Instruments (Pi) have always championed the development of employees, allowing them to grow alongside the business and develop their skill set through internal and external training.

Pi Apprentice Joins the Technical Support Team

Process Instruments - BenPi’s latest employee to undertake such a development is apprentice Ben Turner.

Ben started working for Pi in October 2017 as an Electrical Engineering Apprentice in the Manufacturing department. Here, Ben was tasked with building Pi’s CRONOS® and CRIUS® instrument controllers with a selection of sensors measuring parameters, such as streaming current, chlorine dioxide, ORP and dissolved oxygen.

Now in the second year of his apprenticeship at Nelson and Colne College, Ben has been asked to join Pi’s Technical Support team, providing immediate assistance to customers, distributors and the sales team. As part of his new role, Ben has obtained his Safety Passport and is now able to visit sites to see the analysers and controllers he used to build, in operation.

Regarding his new role, Ben said:

“I was both surprised and excited to be considered for a role in the Technical Support team. Since the move, Pi has provided me with fantastic support, especially Wes and Jonathan who I now work alongside. This is a great opportunity for me to develop my current skills and gain new ones, and I now hope to progress to the Higher National Certificate to develop my ability to solve electrical engineering problems.”

Ben hopes to follow in the footsteps of his mentor and Applications Engineer, Wesley Ashworth, who also started his Pi career as an apprentice in October 2011. Like Ben, Wes initially worked in Manufacturing before progressing to the Technical Support team and completing his Higher National Certificate.

Here at Pi, we currently have seven apprentices who are studying in a range of areas, from electronics to accountancy. In the past, three employees have completed their apprenticeships and the Higher National Certificate. As well as attending training events, some of these employees have since provided training to customers worldwide.

Pi and Bintech supply products across Australia

Managing Director of Bintech, George Benca welcomed Julius to their office in Melbourne. They visited a number of customer sites together, meeting Bintech’s own customers in the process so that Pi could provide additional technical assistance and expertise.

The sites visited featured a variety of Pi equipment, including:

During his time with Bintech, Julius was given a taste of Australian culture including the local ‘Flake and Chips’, which comes from shark meat, and sights of the freely roaming kangaroos.

Julius also visited Turtle Tough, a company who specialise in mining and industrial wastewater applications. Turtle Tough use their own private label branding on the Pi analysers, which are supplied to them by Bintech. Whilst there, Turtle Tough’s General Manager, Brenton Ward invited Julius to a traditional Australian barbecue, an essential part of an Aussie summer.

When commenting about his trip, Julius said:

“It was an amazing experience to visit Australia. The projects discussed with Bintech and Turtle Tough will pave the way for our future relationships to flourish. We have been longstanding partners with Bintech, so it’s always good to visit them and provide assistance wherever we can.”

Julius Pi and Craig AllPronix at Anfield
Julius Guth from Pi (left) and Craig Bradshaw from AllPronix at Anfield

In February 2019, Pi welcomed Craig Bradshaw from AllPronix for a week of advanced product training at the head office in Burnley, UK. Craig is the product specialist for Pi equipment at AllPronix and is responsible for sales across South Africa.

The training week was very hands-on, providing Craig with practical experience in setting up the analysers and trying out different features. The training involved in-depth tutorials about the CRONOS® and CRIUS® analysers including communications, PID settings and remote access as well as sensor calibration procedures for the pHSense pH meter, ConductiSense conductivity meter, TurbSense® turbidity meter, SoliSense® suspended solids monitor and more.

Pi’s head office contact for South Africa, Julius Guth, spent the week training Craig with assistance from Wesley Ashworth and Ben Turner from Pi’s Technical Support team. But the week wasn’t all work; Craig also had plenty of fun trying his hand at Clay Pigeon Shooting at The Coniston Hotel and fulfilling his boyhood dream of watching Liverpool Football Club play at Anfield.

Julius said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Craig to our office and we had a great time together. Craig learnt a lot from the training, which will be invaluable when he is working with his customers back in South Africa. We have been partners with AllPronix for over 4 years now, so it’s always good to have a visit from them and provide assistance wherever we can.”
